"DEP is more than an transdermal delivery system. We are talking about delivering tailored skincare ingredients deep into the skin to achieve results effectively."

We often get enquiries from customers if there are alternatives to injections. Up until recently, we have relied on modalities like iontophoresis, electroporation and sonophoresis to introduce skincare ingredients to our client’s faces during facial treatments.

In this article, we will share more about Dermoelectroporation, an FDA-approved transdermal delivery device that is able to perform local administration of ionic drug solution (water based) deep into the skin. And with this our answer is YES! There is an alternative to injections. Read on to find out more!

What is Dermoelectroporation (DEP)?

DEP is a patented proprietary technology from Mattioli Engineering. It is an FDA-cleared powered drug delivery system that is able to perform local administration of ionic drug solutions. This is what get us really excited because this means we get to customise skincare ingredients to treat our customer’s skin effectively. Not only that, we are talking about addressing a whole plethora of skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, cellulite, hyperhidrosis, acne…the list goes on!

How does DEP works?

In essence, DEP works by means of Microdermabrasion and Dermoelectroporation. Microdermabrasion to first exfoliate the outermost layer of the skin to ensure reproducibility. Then with Dermoelectroporation allows drug solutions to enter the dermis by means of low-energy, electrical pulses. DEP utilises the skin’s water-based channels to deliver vitamins and minerals deeper into the dermis, allowing nutrition to access the skin.
